Sophie’s Threat debuts new lineup with brutal, chaotic and scary single!
“Suicidal God”, the new, conceptual and aggressive single by Brazilian Melodic Death/Thrash Metal band SOPHIE’S THREAT was released October 23rd.
Along with Tiago Carteano (drums) and Ricardo Oliveira (guitar), the band now counts on new members Malu Sales (vocals), Marcao (guitar) and Paulo R. “Satan” (bass).
Produced, mixed and mastered by Michel Villares (M&H Studio), “Suicidal God” brings a psychotic, violent and frightening theme of how society creates its own monsters, and they always come back to seek punishment. To have an even more frightening and realistic atmosphere, the story of the schizophrenic psychopath, and also American serial killer, Joseph Kallinger, who murdered three people – including one of his children – and tortured four other families, was used.
“In the beginning and the end of the song we used excerpts from a real interview given by the criminal, and in this interview he, a schizophrenic man, says that voices in his head told him to kill three million other people, his family, and then kill himself to become a god. That’s why we gave the title “Suicidal God” to the single”, commented Tiago Caertano (drummer).
“It was a big challenge to join the band because I am a very shy person, although I really like to have a band, and also because it was my first experience using a more aggressive and guttural vocal. I have sung in a more raspy way in other Punk Rock bands, but during the pandemic I studied the guttural technique and developed my more aggressive vocal in Metal, a style I really like, but I never intended to have a band before Sophie’s Threat (laughs). “Suicidal God” was like a test for me, I even wrote these strong lyrics together with Tiago and the producer Michel. I recorded the vocals in three different tones to have different nuances and layers to sound even more brutal in the final mix. I was very nervous, but everything went well, and we really like the result”, said Malu Sales (vocals).
The band is current recording a brand-new music video for “Suicidal God” and already has a third unreleased single recorded to be released very soon. Their future plan will release an EP with five new tracks and continue to spread the word of chaos even more!
Formed in Sao Paulo, Brazil by musicians Tiago Carteano (drums) and Ricardo Oliveira (guitar), it was baptized with this name as a reference to the Robot Sophia, which can reproduce 62 facial expressions and is designed to learn to work among us humans, adapting to our behaviors. This robot is the first humanoid to receive citizenship from a country (Saudi Arabia) and when asked in an interview if it would destroy humanity, it surprised everyone by saying ‘yes’! From this concept came the idea for the band’s name, a way its members found to criticize how fast the technological growth can destroy its creator without thinking about its consequences. Boasting a bombastic sound, vibrant and striking riffs, bold lyrics that face the present day and a competent mix between Thrash and Melodic Death Metal, the band unleashes a lot of efficiency, seriousness, and quality in their first official record, the single “Infernal Manipulation”. Unfortunately, right after the release of “Infernal Manipulation”, the band suffered severe line-up changes, but now as a stabilized band, the band’s sound is back to being even more powerful, brutal and impactful as imagined by its founders!
